What is this “relaxing” you speak of?

The company I work for provides an opportunity for employees to have a break from work at the end of the year. In fact, unless you are in a role that specifically prevents it, we are required to take the time off. The problem, for me, is that I am so used to running at full speed the rest of the year that I really struggle to adjust to time away from work. And, if past experience is any indicator, I tend to finally get used to it a day or two before I am supposed to return to work.

I suppose I should be grateful that my employer has decided to now provide two forced breaks every year, starting in 2020. Maybe I will finally get better at adjusting to the R&R side of life. I’m sure my family would prefer the relaxed version of me for the entire break, instead of just the last day or two. It’s certainly a goal I have, even though it’s a struggle.

I really need to get more hobbies. My primary one these days is reading. I use Scribd and my local library for digital reading material. Most of the time, I am able to find something to keep my interest. My preference is to find a series of 3 or more books when looking for a new author to read. One of my least favorite challenges with this approach is when the series isn’t yet complete. I’m not very good at waiting for a new book to come out.

Aside from reading, my only other real hobbies are playing around with web sites and watching movies. I’m not a big TV watcher, but I do like me some good movies, especially with popcorn. I used to be an online gamer (EverQuest and EverQuest 2 were my favorites), but since having kids I haven’t been willing to commit the time required to keep up with it. I have always wanted to take up woodworking, but I don’t have the space or tools for the kind I’d like to do (building bookcases and the like). Maybe one day…
